So, what exactly is bikefitting?

Bikefitting is a collaborative process designed to help you meet your cycling goals. These goals could be related to improving performance, decreasing pain, protecting long term physical health, buying or designing a new bike, planning for a tour or building knowledge of cycling biomechanics.
What's included in a bikefit?
Because your bikefit is tailored to your body, your bike and your goals, there is no standard fit. During a full fit, I will measure your bike before and after any changes are made so you will leave with a record of both riding positions. We will start with an interview process that allows us to discuss your goals, go through any past or current pain, discomfort, injury or complaints, and learn more about you as a cyclist.
You can expect to spend a fair amount of time riding on the trainer while I observe your movement patterns. Once I have an idea of how you ride, we will start to discuss what I'm seeing and how we can go about adjusting aspects of the bike to find a better fit. It is an iterative, collaborative process that allows us to mutually find a positive end result.
Depending on your goals, preferences and available time, we may assess your feet, assess your flexibility, strength and range of motion, try saddle options, adjust cleats or use adjustable handlebars and/or stem to find alternative riding positions.
Ideally, you will leave a bikefit feeling better on the bike than you came in on. Oftentimes, you will leave with recommendations for new components or riding supports or in some cases, information that the current bike is not an ideal size or geometry for you. I believe it's important to give you a realistic, actionable fit and will do my best to give recommendations that fit into your life, budget and cycling plans.
What technology do you use?
Because I am trained in movement education and analysis, I use a lower-tech bikefitting approach. While I have a range of tools to measure your bike and body, I rely on my years of experience reading movement patterns to give you nuanced, accurate information you can understand and integrate into your daily life and riding.
Can a bikefit on one of my bikes affect my other bikes?
While the numbers generated during a bikefit are particular to the bike you bring in, the knowledge of your body, your bike, bikefitting guidance and the sensations from more ideal riding positions stay with you. You might even feel confident and empowered to make small changes with big impacts across your other bikes!
What do i wear or bring to a bikefit?
Wear what you would normally wear to ride - street shoes and clothes or bibs and cycling shoes. Bring water and feel free to bring a snack.
If you have an alternate component you'd like to try out (seat, seatpost, bars, stem), feel free to bring and we may be able to include that in the fit.
